Perspective From Pearson Enhanced With New High School Literature Resources

Online Remediation and Enrichment Tool Now Features Blog, Reference Site and Content from Penguin Group USA, Signet

IOWA CITY, Iowa. – April 9, 2008 – Just in time for the spring student assessment season, Pearson has added new resources and tools to Perspective™, the company’s powerful online remediation and enrichment tool for students. Perspective provides students, families and educators with a roadmap to student improvement through enrichment and remediation resources tailored to student needs.

Leveraging nearly a century of experience in publishing, Pearson has added high school Literature Teachers Guides from its trusted imprints Penguin Group USA and Signet to the Perspective Web site. Featuring works by iconic authors such as Charles Dickens, John Steinbeck, Charlotte Bronte and William Shakespeare, the guides provide teachers with a valuable resource for introducing students to the classics.

“With these new resources from our colleagues at Penguin Group USA, Perspective now offers states even more high-quality, relevant content that addresses student needs and supports educators,” said Douglas Kubach, president and CEO, Assessment and Information, Pearson. “The quality of Penguin and Signet texts is renowned and we are pleased to add these valuable Teachers Guides to Perspective’s growing collection of resources.”

Perspective features a friendly, easy-to-understand overview of a student’s performance on assessments for teachers and families. It is tied to deeper and broader Web reports and resources that align to state-specific standards. Class reports detailing all of the students in a class allow teachers to target instruction based on advance knowledge of past performance. Perspective helps families understand how students are performing, helps educators prepare for their classes, and details what both can do to help each student succeed.

“Adding our teacher literature resources to Perspective allows us to provide teachers with a valuable tool for introducing students to the classics,” said Alan Walker, senior director of academic marketing and sales, Penguin Group USA, Pearson.

In addition, parents, teachers and students can now learn more about effective ways for using the resources available on Perspective with the launch of “APerspective,” a blog offering news, hints and tips, and a new Perspective Reference Site. For states considering providing Perspective to their education community, the Reference Site offers a way to preview the site’s tools and resources and learn more about how it can help improve student achievement.

“In this Web 2.0 world, a blog is essential for quickly communicating with parents, teachers and students. We hope ‘APerspective’ will provide a forum for feedback and help us respond more quickly to requests from Perspective users,” added Pearson’s Kubach. “The Reference Site allows states interested in offering Perspective to its students a way to explore all the site’s features and benefits prior to making a purchasing decision.”
